Why Salafis Fight Over Minor Fiqhi Issues New

The Tragic Reality of Debates Among Salafi & Ahl-e-Hadith Brothers

May Allah guide our “debating jurists.” In theory, they possess a vast treasure of ethics, the etiquette of disagreement, and Islamic values, and they occasionally preach these very concepts to the masses through their writings and speeches. But tragically, when it comes to implementing these principles in their own character and actions, they toss all ethics and manners of disagreement aside and plunge straight into the battlefield of debate. Consequently, whenever a difference of opinion arises—even over a trivial Fiqhi (jurisprudential) issue—our Salafi Ahl-e-Hadith brethren split into two warring factions. They clash as if it were a matter of Kufr (disbelief) and Iman (faith), acting not like followers of the same Manhaj (methodology), but rather as if a war is raging between two entirely different sects.

O servants of Allah, it is merely a Fiqhi issue! State your position and move on. Whoever accepts it, let them; whoever rejects it, let them be. That is a matter between them and their Lord. Even in the monumental matters of Tawheed (monotheism) and Shirk (polytheism), Allah said to the Noble Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him), “لست عليهم بمصيطر”, meaning you are not there to force them into submission. And He also said, “فلعلك باخع نفسك على آثارهم…”

I simply cannot fathom why, in issues of Ijtihad (independent reasoning) where credible scholars have held differing views since the early days, people become so rigidly stubborn. They act as if their opinion is the absolute truth and the opposing view is entirely baseless. As a result, they vow to rest only after forcing their opponents to concede. Until the other side yields, they will relentlessly publish article after article—and if it requires hurling insults and abuse, they will stoop to that as well!!!

Another point worth noting is that whenever a disagreement occurs, some individuals instantly play the victim card, whining and crying that they are being oppressed or being “expelled from the Manhaj.” Then, they launch an attack on the very term “Manhaj” itself, making it seem as though this “Manhaj” is the root cause of all disputes.

Look, if you must fight, then by all means, fight! Engage in fierce debates, and try to dismantle the opposing faction with your proofs. But for the sake of Allah, neither side should needlessly drag the “Manhaj” into the mud and stigmatize it… We have absolutely zero interest in your debating spectacles, nor do we wish to become a party to these disputes by commenting on them. However, it is deeply painful to witness our own brothers casting aspersions on the “Manhaj.”

If, in your view, certain individuals are misusing the Manhaj, then go ahead and strike them with swords and arrows! But do not vent your frustrations on the “Manhaj” itself, as it tarnishes the image of the Manhaj-e-Salaf (methodology of the pious predecessors) and gives outsiders an excuse to laugh at us.

Why don’t people realize that disagreements which have remained unresolved for fourteen hundred years are not going to be magically settled by a single article or speech of yours? Therefore, simply present what you believe to be the truth in the light of evidence, and move forward. Do not unnecessarily pose as a Mujaddid (reviver) in Fiqhi issues—especially those that possess genuine room for Ijtihad and diverse opinions—just to birth new controversies. Furthermore, do not drag the “Manhaj” into jurisprudential matters, making it a target for abuse, because the masses end up misinterpreting its true essence… Shirk, Bid’ah (innovation), Kufr, Atheism—there are plenty of grave topics out there! Channel your energies into tackling them and utilize your time productively!!!

May Allah grant us the ability to prioritize practicing our faith over mere reading and writing. Ameen.
