Can Charity be Converted to Zakat? Understanding Islamic Intentions

The Importance of Intention in Zakat and Charity

Question: If someone gives charity without the intention of Zakat and later decides to consider it as Zakat, is this correct?

Answer: If you initially gave something with the intention of charity, it will be considered as charity and not Zakat. The intention cannot be changed after the act has been performed. The intention at the time of the act is what counts.
