Modest Dressing: What a Woman Should Cover in Front of Another Woman

Understanding the Concept of ‘Awrah in Islam

Question: How much should a woman cover in front of another woman?

Answer: The ‘awrah (area to be covered) of a woman in front of another woman is the same as that of a man in front of another man, which is from the navel to the knees. Therefore, a woman’s ‘awrah in front of other women is also from the navel to the knees.

Regarding the issue of covering, a woman is generally required to cover her entire body, even in front of other women, except for the hands, feet, and face. A woman should not appear naked or wear revealing clothes in front of other women. She should cover her chest, stomach, back, etc., even in front of other women, as exposing these parts can lead to fitnah (temptation). In situations where there is a risk of fitnah, such as among non-Muslim women, it is better for her to cover completely, including her face.
