The Islamic Ruling on Preventing Women from Attending Eīd Prayers
Women must not be prevented from attending the ʿEīd Ṣalāh without a valid reason
Shaykh Jumʿān Laḥmar (حفظه الله ورعاه) was asked:
If a man prevented his wife from going to pray Ṣalāh at the ʿEīd Muṣallā, is there any sin upon him?
He answered:
“If he prevented her without a [valid] reason, and the Muṣallā was of Ahl al-Sunnah, then yes; he is sinful, because the ʿEīd Ṣalāh is Wājib for the men and women, according to the correct view of the people of knowledge.
So, if he prevented her from the Muṣallā of Ahl al-Sunnah without any [valid] excuse, then he is sinful.
“لا تمنعوا إماءَ اللهِ مساجدَ اللهِ”
“Do not prevent the female servants of Allāh from the Masājid of Allāh.”
Mutafaqqun ʿAlayh, on the authority of Ibn ʿUmar رضي الله عنهما.
“إذا اسْتَأْذَنَتِ امْرَأَةُ أحَدِكُمْ إلى المَسْجِدِ فلا يَمْنَعْها”
“If the wife of any one of you asks permission to go to the Masjid, then let him not prevent her.”
Agreed upon, on the authority of Ibn ʿUmar, رضي الله عنهما.”
