The Islamic Ruling on Watching Dramas Based on Prophets’ Stories

Why Watching Dramas of Prophets is Haram: A Warning for Muslims

Question: What is the ruling on watching dramas based on the stories of prophets? I need to send this answer to my father-in-law so that he stops watching them. After watching the dramas of Ertugrul and Salahuddin Ayyubi, he has become addicted to dramas.

Answer: Watching dramas is considered impermissible and haram in light of Shariah because they contain various unlawful, obscene, and forbidden aspects.

Primarily, understand that dramas are made to create excitement and pleasure in the mind, and they have no connection to reality. They are often a mix of one truth with a hundred lies. In dramas, you will find lies instead of historical facts, music, and instruments, and most importantly, they are based on images of living beings. In Islam, lying or creating false stories, false tales, or using falsehood in the name of biography and history to make dramas is extremely dangerous. Islam has a strict stance against lying, and you will find thousands of lies in a single drama. Additionally, creating and watching images of living beings is also haram in Islam.

When films are made in the name of prophets, they often show the shadow or image of the prophet, which is a great disrespect to the prophet. When a non-believer makes a cartoon of our prophet, we protest, but when a film is made in the name of the prophet, we watch it with great enthusiasm. How far have we fallen as Muslims?

Regarding the drama of Ertugrul Ghazi, you will not find the true history of the Ottoman Caliphate in it. It is a serial drama made by mixing thousands of lies with a few truths, and besides lies, it contains music, instruments, obscene scenes, and even love affairs with women. The person who had this drama made is Tayyip Erdogan, who watched the Jews play a bloody game in Palestine but did not dare to attack them. Instead, he provided them with food, medicine, petrol, and gas behind their backs. Believe me, these dramas will make you as cowardly, faithless, and corrupt as Tayyip Erdogan.

If you want to read the stories of the prophets, read the book “Qasas al-Anbiya.” If you want to learn about Islamic history and the Ottoman Caliphate, read true historical books, but for God’s sake, never try to learn your Islamic history through dramas because they contain more lies than history.
