Umrah Ihram Dress Code for Women: Shoes, Socks, and Face Covering

Ihram Dress Code for Women: What to Wear for Umrah

Question: A woman is going for Umrah and wants to know what kind of shoes she can wear in the state of Ihram. Can she wear closed shoes or leather socks, and how should she cover her face while in Ihram, as she usually wears a veil?

Answer: A woman is allowed to wear any type of shoes or socks in the state of Ihram, and it is better for her to wear shoes and socks rather than sandals to ensure more modesty. However, it is recommended that she not wear shoes inside the Haram due to cleanliness concerns. She may enter the Haram wearing socks or leather socks and perform her Umrah in this state. Additionally, it is important to note that she can only wipe over socks that fully cover the ankles and are worn in a state of wudu. In Ihram, a woman is not allowed to wear a face veil or burqa, but she should use a large sheet to cover her face, head, and hands.
