بســـم اللــه الرحــمــن الـرحـــيــم

From the commentary on the Book of Tawheed by Shaykhul-Islaam Muhammad bin Abdil-Wahhaab may Allaah have mercy on him,111-112th, Lesson

By Shaykh, the ‘Allāmah, the Trustworthy Advisor, Abu ‘Abdirrahmān Yahya bin ‘Ali Al-Hajūri – may Allāh preserve him – on the 8th, Dhul-Qa’dah, 1444H

Chapter: The one who jokes about something which has the dhikr of Allaah or the Qur’aan or the Messenger, and His statement:

(وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُمْ لَيَقُولُنَّ إِنَّمَا كُنَّا نَخُوضُ وَنَلْعَبُۚ قُلْ أَبِٱللَّهِ وَءَايَٰتِهِۦ وَرَسُولِهِۦ كُنتُمْ تَسْتَهْزِءُونَ)

And if you ask them, they will surely say, "We were only conversing and playing." Say, "Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?"

[At-Taubah :65]

From Ibn ‘Umar and Muhammad bin Ka’b and Zaid bin Aslam and Qataadah – the Hadith entered into each other that he said: “A man said during the battle of Taabuk: “I have not seen the likes of these reciters (learned men) of ours, they have the hungriest of bellies, most lying of tongues, and are the most cowardice in battle”, so Auf said to him: “You lied, rather you are a Munaafiq, indeed I will inform the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ”, so Auf went to the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ to inform him, but found the Qur’aan had indeed preceded him. So that man came to the Prophet ﷺ and he had indeed mounted and began to ride his camel, so he said: “O Messenger of Allaah verily we were merely engaging in idle talk and speech of travellers to get through the journey”, Ibn ‘Umar said: “As if I am looking at him holding on the shoulders of the camel of the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ while the stones are catching his legs while he is saying:

"Verily we were merely engaging in idle talk and playing." So the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ says to him:

(وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُمْ لَيَقُولُنَّ إِنَّمَا كُنَّا نَخُوضُ وَنَلْعَبُۚ قُلْ أَبِٱللَّهِ وَءَايَٰتِهِۦ وَرَسُولِهِۦ كُنتُمْ تَسْتَهْزِءُونَ)

And if you ask them, they will surely say, “We were only conversing and playing.” Say, “Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?”

[At-Taubah :65]

He doesn’t look at him nor increases upon that.

In it are Masaa’il (topics):

The First: And it is great: And whoever jokes with this is a Kaafir.

The Second: And this is the Tafseer of the verse concerning the one who does that whoever it is.

The Third: The difference between Nameemah and being sincere to Allaah and His Messenger.

The Fourth: The difference between the pardoning that Allaah loves and harshness upon the enemies of Allaah.

The Fifth: That from the excuses are that which is not necessary to be accepted.
