Understanding the Correct Time for Reciting Surah Al-Kahf on Friday
Question: What is the correct time to recite Surah Al-Kahf? Some people say that the time for Friday starts after Maghrib on Thursday, so you can recite Surah Al-Kahf anytime after Maghrib on Thursday. Please provide the correct guidance on this matter.
Answer: There is a difference of opinion regarding the recitation of Surah Al-Kahf on Friday because some scholars have classified the related Hadiths as weak, while others have considered them authentic. Despite this, the practice of reciting Surah Al-Kahf on Friday is established. As for the correct time to recite it, Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen (رحمه الله) says that it can be recited anytime between sunrise and sunset on Friday. Sheikh Ibn Baz (رحمه الله) also holds the opinion that it can be recited at any time on Friday, whether early, mid, or late in the day.
It is true that the day of Friday begins after sunset on Thursday, which is why some scholars permit the recitation of Surah Al-Kahf on Thursday night. However, the Hadith mentioning “the night of Friday” is not free from weakness. Therefore, it is better to recite Surah Al-Kahf between sunrise and sunset on Friday.
