The Ruling on Sharing Quran Pages in WhatsApp Groups: Benefits and Precautions
Question: A woman has created a family group on WhatsApp where she sends a page of the Quran daily. Everyone, including children and adults, is supposed to read the page and react to it daily. Perhaps the intention is to develop the habit of reading the Quran. Is this permissible, and is there any harm in doing so?
Answer: Sharing a page of the Quran daily in a WhatsApp group for the members to recite is not harmful. However, it would be better to send a few verses along with their translation and commentary daily. This way, adults can understand the meaning and context of the verses, while children can focus on recitation.
I would like to caution that if the purpose of this recitation is to collectively recite and then dedicate the reward to a deceased person, this practice is not permissible. It is considered an innovation (bid’ah) and should be avoided.
