Conveying the Truth of Islam in the Face of Mockery and Criticism
Question: When we try to explain to people that certain customs like Mehndi and Haldi ceremonies are sinful, they often mock us and point out our own faults. What should we do in such situations?
Answer: This is a significant issue. When we convey the correct teachings of Islam, especially when warning against wrong practices, people may mock us and accuse us of being wrong. What should our response be in such situations?
Firstly, understand that our duty is to invite people to the truth of Islam. It is not necessary for the person we are addressing to accept our message because guidance and success come from Allah. Even those who were not destined for guidance did not believe despite the Prophet’s (PBUH) preaching. Therefore, we should not be distressed if someone does not accept our message. By presenting the truth with evidence, we fulfill our duty and earn reward from Allah, and we are absolved of responsibility.
Secondly, when you speak against wrong customs prevalent in society, you may face not only mockery but also harm, social boycott, and other difficulties. This requires patience, as we learn from the life of the Prophet (PBUH) and as mentioned in Surah Al-Asr.
When warning against wrong practices at weddings or other occasions, speak with wisdom and insight, using evidence from the Quran and Hadith. Avoid arguments and harsh language as much as possible. Additionally, it is essential that our own character is good, and we ourselves engage in righteous deeds and avoid wrong actions.
