Reciting Surah Fatiha and Additional Surahs in Congregational Prayers

Guidelines for Reciting Surah Fatiha and Additional Surahs in Congregational Prayers

Question: Our question is whether, when we pray behind an Imam, and after reciting Surah Fatiha, if the Imam recites another surah, should we also recite that surah behind the Imam?

Answer: In the case of a loud prayer, such as Isha, the follower (Muqtadi) should recite only Surah Fatiha in all the units of the prayer. However, in the case of a silent prayer, such as Dhuhr, the follower should recite Surah Fatiha followed by another surah in the first two units of the prayer. In the remaining two units, they should recite only Surah Fatiha..
