Question: If a person misses the Dhuhr prayer and remembers only when the Iqamah (call to prayer) for the Asr prayer is being made, should they join the congregation with the intention of Dhuhr or Asr, or should they pray Dhuhr alone and then Asr?
Answer: The person should join the congregation and pray with them. They should not pray separately. Since the Dhuhr prayer is missed, which should be performed first according to its order, they can pray Dhuhr with the congregation and then make up the Asr prayer afterward. Observing the sequence is preferred, but if they pray Asr with the congregation first and then make up Dhuhr afterward, there is no harm in that either.
