Question: Respected Sheikh, can a woman pray in the courtyard? Will her prayer be valid? I was praying in the courtyard when a sister said that prayer is not valid in the courtyard.
Answer: It is better and more virtuous for a woman to pray inside the house, in the most inner and secure place. However, if she prays outside the house, in the courtyard, or on the roof, while maintaining proper hijab, her prayer is valid and there is no harm in it. The girl who said that prayer is not valid in the courtyard does not know the Shariah ruling on this matter. She should be warned not to speak without knowledge, as it can lead to sin in the sight of Allah.
If she argues further, ask her for evidence on which she bases her claim that a woman’s prayer is not valid in the courtyard. If she has evidence, then her statement will be considered correct; if she does not have evidence, then her statement will be considered false.
