Honoring Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (RA): A Paragon of Righteousness, Strength, and Devotion
When we speak of Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (RA), we often limit our recognition of her to being a successful businesswoman. While her entrepreneurial excellence is commendable, it is only one facet of her extraordinary life. Her true greatness lies in her unwavering faith, noble character, and unparalleled support for the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Let us explore the depth of her virtues and learn from her life beyond the superficial.
Khadijah (RA) was a woman of deep belief and modesty, even before Islam was revealed. Known in Makkah as “Al-Tahira” (the Pure), she was revered for her chastity, dignity, and moral uprightness. Her heart was inclined toward truth and justice, and she never engaged in the idolatrous practices of her time.
When the message of Islam was revealed to the Prophet ﷺ, Khadijah (RA) was the first to believe in Allah and His Messenger. Her faith was immediate, sincere, and unwavering. She did not question or hesitate; instead, she submitted herself entirely to the will of Allah, setting a precedent for all believers.
Khadijah (RA) embodied noble manners, humility, and selflessness. She treated everyone with respect, whether they were family, employees, or strangers. Her dealings in trade reflected her honesty and integrity, earning her not only wealth but also the admiration and trust of her community.
Her gentleness and wisdom shone through in her interactions, and she was a source of peace and comfort for those around her. The Prophet ﷺ himself praised her noble character, and her status in his heart was unmatched.
As a mother, Khadijah (RA) raised her children with love, care, and righteousness. She nurtured them in a home filled with faith and moral values. Among her children were Fatimah (RA), the beloved daughter of the Prophet ﷺ, and her sons, who passed away in childhood.
Khadijah’s parenting reflected her devotion to her family and her faith. Her legacy lives on through her descendants, including the noble lineage of the Prophet ﷺ.
Khadijah (RA) was the first and most beloved wife of the Prophet ﷺ. Their marriage was built on mutual love, respect, and understanding. She was not just a wife but also his confidant, friend, and strongest supporter. The Prophet ﷺ never forgot her love and sacrifices, even after her passing.
When the Prophet ﷺ faced challenges, Khadijah (RA) stood by him unwaveringly. She supported him emotionally and materially, giving him the strength to fulfill his divine mission.
Khadijah (RA) was the first to support the Prophet ﷺ when he received the revelation in the cave of Hira. Her words of comfort and reassurance reflect her wisdom and deep understanding:
“By Allah, Allah will never disgrace you. You keep good relations with your kith and kin, help the poor and destitute, serve your guests generously, and assist the deserving who have been afflicted by calamity.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari)
She provided not only moral support but also her wealth to aid the spread of Islam. Her sacrifices for the deen were immense. She endured the social and economic boycott alongside the Prophet ﷺ and remained steadfast despite the hardships.
Khadijah (RA) faced numerous trials with patience and faith. From the loss of her children to the hardships imposed by the Quraysh, she remained strong. Her life teaches us that true resilience comes from reliance on Allah and steadfastness in faith.
Her home became a sanctuary of righteousness, where the light of Islam first shone. She fostered an environment of peace, faith, and devotion, making her household a model for believers.
Khadijah’s (RA) legacy is one of unwavering faith, compassion, and sacrifice. She was not only the first believer but also a cornerstone of the early Muslim community. Allah honored her in her lifetime, and the Prophet ﷺ never ceased to speak of her with love and reverence.
In one instance, the Prophet ﷺ said:
“The best of the women of Paradise are Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, Fatimah bint Muhammad, Maryam bint Imran, and Asiyah bint Muzahim, the wife of Pharaoh.”
(Ahmad, Sahih)
