How to Respond to Adhans and Recite Supplications as a Woman
Question: Sometimes it happens that after one Adhan (call to prayer) ends, another Adhan starts from somewhere else. I start responding to the second Adhan and miss the supplication after the first Adhan. Can I respond to all the Adhans and then recite the supplications for all of them together?
Answer: The purpose of Adhan is to inform people about the prayer time so they can come for prayer. Since it is obligatory for men to go to the mosque and pray in congregation, they will go to the mosque upon hearing the Adhan. However, women will perform their prayers at home. Just as it is preferable for men to pray at the earliest time, it is also preferable for women. Therefore, the correct practice for women is to respond to the Adhan they hear and then perform their prayer promptly. There is no need to wait for another Adhan. It is better and preferable for them to perform their prayer at the earliest time after making ablution. Responding to one Adhan and reciting the supplication after it is sufficient.
Additionally, when you respond to the first Adhan, recite the supplication immediately after it. Do not delay the supplication or recite it after hearing two or three Adhans. If you miss some phrases of the second Adhan or intentionally skip them because of responding to the first Adhan, there is no sin in that because responding to the Adhan is not obligatory but recommended. For women, the main point is to perform their prayer as soon as the time starts without any delay.
However, during the days of impurity when you are not praying, you can respond to as many Adhans as you can since you are not performing the prayer.
