Understanding Tajweed in Salawat: Correct Pronunciation and Practices

Is It Correct to Say ‘Salli’ or ‘Salle’ in the Ibrahimic Salawat?

Question: In terms of Tajweed, we pronounce the kasrah lightly, as in “bi-lam zayr.” So when we recite the Ibrahimic Salawat, is it correct to say “Allahumma salli” or “salle”? I have heard many reciters saying “salle ‘ala.” What is correct in this regard?

Answer: It is prescribed to recite the Quran with Tajweed and proper pronunciation; however, this ruling does not apply to supplications, prayers, and remembrances. No one recites the Salawat or supplications with the same Tajweed as the Quran. Have you ever seen someone reciting a supplication or remembrance in the same manner as the recitation of the Quran? You probably haven’t. The reason is that Tajweed is only related to the recitation of the Quran. Therefore, whether you say it as “salli” or “salle” while reciting the Salawat, there is no harm in that.
