Question: In light of the hadith “Al-Haal Al-Murtahil,” is it permissible to recite the last five verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at the end of the Quran and then raise hands in supplication, considering it a time of acceptance?
Answer: Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that a man asked: “O Messenger of Allah! Which deed is most beloved to Allah?” He replied: “The continuous and consistent one.” The man asked: “What is meant by ‘continuous and consistent’?” The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The one who reads the Quran from the beginning to the end, and whenever he finishes, he starts again.”
This narration is from Sunan al-Tirmidhi, which Sheikh Al-Albani has classified as weak. (See: Da’if al-Tirmidhi Al-Albani: 2948)
Since the mentioned hadith is weak, no ruling can be derived from it. Therefore, reciting the last five verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at the end of the Quran, making supplication at that time, and considering it a time of acceptance are all baseless practices.
