Different Names of the Holy Quran

✵- Al-Quran (The Most Recited Book):

شَهْرُ‌ رَ‌مَضَانَ الَّذِي أُنزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْ‌آنُ

Translation: “The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’an.” (Surah Al-Baqarah: 185)

✵- Al-Furqan (The Criterion/Distinguisher):

تَبَارَ‌كَ الَّذِي نَزَّلَ الْفُرْ‌قَانَ عَلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ لِيَكُونَ لِلْعَالَمِينَ نَذِيرً‌ا

Translation: “Blessed is He who sent down the Criterion upon His Servant that he may be to the worlds a warner.” (Surah Al-Furqan: 1)

✵- Al-Burhan (The Proof):

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَاءَكُم بُرْ‌هَانٌ مِّن رَّ‌بِّكُمْ وَأَنزَلْنَا إِلَيْكُمْ نُورً‌ا مُّبِينًا

Translation: “O mankind, there has come to you a conclusive proof from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a clear light.” (Surah An-Nisa: 174)

✵- Al-Kitab (The Written Book):

ذَٰلِكَالْكِتَابُ لَا رَ‌يْبَ فِيهِ

Translation: “This is the Book about which there is no doubt.” (Surah Al-Baqarah: 2)

✵- Al-Haqq (The Truth):

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَ‌اهُ بَلْ هُوَ الْحَقُّ مِن رَّ‌بِّكَ لِتُنذِرَ‌ قَوْمًا مَّا أَتَاهُم مِّن نَّذِيرٍ‌ مِّن قَبْلِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ

Translation: “Or do they say, ‘He has invented it?’ Rather, it is the truth from your Lord, [O Muhammad], that you may warn a people to whom no warner has come before you, that they might be guided.” (Surah As-Sajdah: 3)

✵- Adh-Dhikr (The Reminder):

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ‌ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ

Translation: “Indeed, it is We who sent down the Reminder, and indeed, We will be its guardian.” (Surah Al-Hijr: 9)

✵- At-Tanzil (The Revelation):

وَإِنَّهُ لَتَنزِيلُ رَ‌بِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Translation: “And indeed, it is a revelation of the Lord of the worlds.” (Surah Ash-Shu’ara: 192)

✵- Ahsan al-Hadith (The Best Discourse):

اللَّهُ نَزَّلَ أَحْسَنَ الْحَدِيثِ

Translation: “Allah has sent down the best discourse.” (Surah Az-Zumar: 23)

✵- Adheem (The Great):

وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَاكَ سَبْعًا مِّنَ الْمَثَانِي وَالْقُرْ‌آنَ الْعَظِيمَ

Translation: “And We have certainly given you, [O Muhammad], seven of the often repeated [verses] and the great Qur’an.” (Surah Al-Hijr: 87)

✵- Karim (The Noble):

إِنَّهُ لَقُرْ‌آنٌ كَرِ‌يمٌ

Translation: “Indeed, it is a noble Qur’an.” (Surah Al-Waqi’ah: 77)

✵- Aziz (The Mighty/Sublime):

وَإِنَّهُ لَكِتَابٌ عَزِيزٌ

Translation: “And indeed, it is a mighty Book.” (Surah Fussilat: 41)

✵- Majeed (The Glorious):

ق وَالْقُرْ‌آنِ الْمَجِيدِ

Translation: “Qaf. By the glorious Qur’an.” (Surah Qaf: 1)

✵- Hakeem (The Wise) & Ali (The Exalted):

وَإِنَّهُ فِي أُمِّ الْكِتَابِ لَدَيْنَا لَعَلِيٌّ حَكِيمٌ

Translation: “And indeed it is, in the Mother of the Book with Us, exalted and full of wisdom.” (Surah Az-Zukhruf: 4)

✵- Al-Maw’idha (The Admonition), Ash-Shifa (The Cure), Al-Huda (The Guidance), Ar-Rahmah (The Mercy):

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَاءَتْكُم مَّوْعِظَةٌ مِّن رَّ‌بِّكُمْ وَشِفَاءٌ لِّمَا فِي الصُّدُورِ‌ وَهُدًى وَرَ‌حْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Translation: "O mankind, there has come to you an admonition from your Lord and a healing for what is in the breasts and guidance and mercy for the believers." (Surah Yunus: 57)

✵- Al-Musaddiq (The Confirmer) & Al-Muhaymin (The Guardian):

وَأَنزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ بِالْحَقِّ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ وَمُهَيْمِنًا عَلَيْهِ

Translation: “And We have sent down to you the Book in truth, confirming what was before it of the Scripture and as a guardian over it.” (Surah Al-Ma’idah: 48)

✵- Al-Mubin (The Clear/Manifest):

الر‌ تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ وَقُرْ‌آنٍ مُّبِينٍ

Translation: “Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur’an.” (Surah Al-Hijr: 1)

✵- Al-Mubarak (The Blessed):

وَهَـٰذَا كِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ مُبَارَ‌كٌ فَاتَّبِعُوهُ وَاتَّقُوا لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْ‌حَمُونَ

Translation: “And this is a Book which We have sent down, blessed; so follow it and fear Allah that you may receive mercy.” (Surah Al-An’am: 155)

✵- Al-Bashir (The Giver of Glad Tidings) & An-Nadhir (The Warner):

كِتَابٌ فُصِّلَتْ آيَاتُهُ قُرْ‌آنًا عَرَ‌بِيًّا لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْلَمُونَ. بَشِيرً‌ا وَنَذِيرً‌ا

Translation: “A Book whose verses have been detailed, an Arabic Qur’an for a people who know. As a giver of good tidings and a warner.” (Surah Fussilat: 3-4)

✵- An-Nur (The Light):

قَدْ جَاءَكُم مِّنَ اللَّـهِ نُورٌ‌ وَكِتَابٌ مُّبِينٌ

Translation: “There has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book.” (Surah Al-Ma’idah: 15)

Note: Among these names, five are more famous: Al-Quran, Al-Furqan, Adh-Dhikr, At-Tanzil, and Al-Kitab. The rest are considered to be descriptive names (attributes). According to one saying, up to 55 names are found.
