Praying with a Clove in the Mouth: Is it Permissible?

Can You Pray with a Clove to Stop Coughing?

Question: Can one pray with a clove in the mouth? I want to go to the mosque for Friday prayers, and I have a cough. To stop the cough, can I pray with a clove in my mouth?

Answer: Since you are a woman and you have a cough that might disturb others in the mosque, it is better for you to pray at home. Allah has permitted women to pray at home, and it is more virtuous for a woman to pray at home. Therefore, in this situation, you should pray at home, and when you are well, you can go to the mosque for Friday prayers without any issue.

The second issue is that it is not permissible to pray with a clove in the mouth because eating and drinking are prohibited during prayer. Having a clove in your mouth will give you its taste and flavor during the prayer. Additionally, having a clove in your mouth will distract you, and your attention will be drawn towards the clove, making it difficult to focus on the recitation and supplications during the prayer. Therefore, it is not permissible to pray with a clove in your mouth, whether at home or in the mosque.
