Is It Permissible to Keep Statues or Pictures of Living Beings in the House?

Question: Generally, people keep items like horse, bear, and many other such things in their rooms. What is the ruling in Shariah regarding this?

Answer: It is not permissible to keep pictures or statues of living beings in the house because making and keeping images of living beings is prohibited in Islam. There are severe warnings about this in the Hadith. In Sahih Muslim, it is narrated from Aisha (RA) that she said:

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came to me and I had screened my alcove with a curtain having pictures on it. He (the Prophet) changed color (with anger) and then he tore the curtain and said: ‘The most grievous torment from Allah on the Day of Resurrection would be for those who try to imitate Allah’s creation.'”

Therefore, anyone who has items like horse, bear, or monkey statues in their house should remove them.
