The Ruling on Taking Payment for Cupping (Hijama) in Modern Practice
Is it prohibited to take payment for cupping (hijama), but can one practice it as a profession in today’s advanced world where cupping is done with scientific instruments?
Answer: It is known from authentic hadiths in Nasai, Ibn Majah, and Musnad Ahmad that the Prophet ﷺ prohibited taking payment for cupping. However, it is mentioned in the Sahihain that the Prophet ﷺ himself paid for cupping. Both types of hadiths exist, and in light of both, it can be said that taking payment for cupping is permissible with some dislike.
