Question: It is said that during pregnancy, if a woman looks at a certain picture frequently, the child will be born resembling that picture. Is this true or is it a form of shirk (associating partners with Allah)?
Answer: The child will not be born resembling the pictures the mother looks at during pregnancy. The child will be born as Allah wills. The creation of the child is according to Allah’s will, and looking at pictures does not affect the child’s appearance.
It is a matter of belief and faith that we believe Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, creates the child in the womb as He wills, whether in color or form. Allah says in the Quran:
هُوَ الَّذِي يُصَوِّرُكُمْ فِي الْأَرْحَامِ كَيْفَ يَشَاءُ ۚ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ (آل عمران:6)
Translation: "He it is Who shapes you in the wombs as He pleases. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise." (Aal-e-Imran: 6)
The statement that a child will be born resembling what the mother frequently looks at during pregnancy is false. A believer should have correct faith in their Creator and avoid such false beliefs.
