Is It Permissible to Name Children After Qur’an Chapters like Yā-Sīn, Tā-Hā, and Hā-Mīm?
PROHIBITION OF NAMING SOMEONE AFTER THE NAMES OF THE QUR’ĀN AND ITS CHAPTERS
“It is also prohibited to name someone after the names of the Qur’an and its chapters, such as Tā-hā, Yā-sīn, or Hā-Mīm. (Imam) Mālik has explicitly stated the undesirability of the name ‘Yā-sīn’, as reported by Al-Suhaylī.
As for what the common people say, that Yā-sīn and Tā-Hā are among the Prophet’s (ﷺ) names, it is not correct. There is no hadith sahīh, hasan or mursal, nor is there a report from a companion in that regard. These letters are the same as ‘Alif, Lām, Mīm; ‘Hā Mīm; Alif, Lām, Rā… etc.”
