Question: What is the reality of “Uthra” (Recurrent Miscarriage) in women according to the Quran and Hadith? Is it contagious or just a myth?
Answer: Uthra, known in English as Recurrent Miscarriage, refers to difficulties related to pregnancy, such as repeated miscarriages or premature loss of pregnancy. Women facing such issues are often labeled as having Uthra. This is actually a physical condition caused by menstrual irregularities or genetic factors. Any woman can experience pregnancy difficulties, and it is advisable for such women to seek medical treatment without any hesitation.
In society, women who repeatedly miscarry, lose their pregnancy prematurely, or whose babies die at birth or shortly after, are often considered unlucky or believed to be under the influence of jinn. They are avoided, and amulets and charms are used, but these are all false beliefs and stories with no basis in Islam. Uthra is not a contagious condition.
