Menopause and Menstruation: Ruling on Prayers and Fasting

Understanding Menstrual Bleeding During Menopause: Islamic Rulings

Question: During menopause, if a woman experiences bleeding for more days than her usual menstrual period and the characteristics of the blood are similar to menstrual blood, what is the ruling on her prayers and fasting?

Answer: When a woman reaches an age where her menstrual cycle is ending, and if the duration of her menstrual period becomes shorter or longer while still having the characteristics of menstrual blood, then the days she experiences bleeding will be considered as menstruation. She should refrain from prayers and fasting during these days. However, it is important to note that the maximum duration for menstruation is fifteen days. If the bleeding continues beyond fifteen days, she should perform Ghusl (ritual purification) and resume her prayers.
