Marriage, Passports, and Islamic Law: What You Need to Know
Question: When a girl gets married, she has to obtain a passport in her husband’s name. Is there any sin in this?
Answer: When a girl marries, she will likely need to fill out numerous documents throughout her life related to her marital status, and there is no issue with this. These documents reflect the legal status of the couple. Islam commands that a child be attributed to their father, and a passport mentioning the husband does so in the context of marriage, not as a replacement for the father.
