Navigating Marital Needs: Shariah Perspectives on Intimacy and Mutual Respect
Question: What should a wife do if her husband does not fulfill her marital needs, and if she insists on her need, he gets angry or argues and does not give her this right? What does Shariah say about this situation?
Answer: Just as it is obligatory for a wife to respect her husband’s sexual desires and offer herself to him, it is equally obligatory for the husband to respect his wife’s desires and fulfill her needs when she desires intimacy. This is a mutual marital right that both husband and wife must respect each other’s desires and needs.
However, this matter should not be forced but should be resolved with wisdom and love. Allah has placed an attraction in women that even governments bow before, so a woman should use her natural charm to fulfill her needs from her husband.
If, despite efforts, the husband does not fulfill the wife’s sexual desires and several months pass, the wife can separate from such a man. However, if the husband occasionally fulfills her needs or has intercourse according to his own desire and the wife can be patient, then she should be patient.
