Is It Allowed to Kiss the Quran After Reading It? Islamic Viewpoint
Question: Is it correct to kiss the Quran? I have seen many people kiss the Quran after reading it, and when I tell them not to, they ask why they shouldn’t.
Answer: There is no evidence in the Quran or Hadith to support the practice of kissing the Quran. This is a custom created by people. If someone claims that this act is a Sunnah or considers it a source of reward, they are lying because there is no such evidence in the Sunnah.
I always advise that if you see someone performing an act, you should ask them for evidence of why they are doing it, as the burden of proof lies on the one who performs the act or claims its validity. Therefore, when you encounter such people, ask them for evidence. It is not your responsibility to provide evidence; rather, it is the responsibility of the claimant, and the one who kisses the Quran is the claimant.
Tell them that if they perform this act, they should provide evidence, and if they cannot, then why do they perform an act without evidence? Allah says in the Quran: “Say, ‘Produce your proof if you should be truthful.'” (Al-Baqarah: 111)
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever does an act that is not in accordance with our matter (religion), it will be rejected.” (Sahih Muslim: 1718)
In summary, there is no evidence for this act, and any act without evidence is rejected and invalid.
