Understanding Khula and Iddah: When Does the Waiting Period Begin?

Khula and Iddah: Key Insights on Divorce and Waiting Periods

Question:When a woman files for Khula (divorce initiated by the wife) in court, does her Iddah (waiting period) start from that time, or from when the court grants the Khula?

Answer: The Iddah does not start when the Khula notice is submitted to the court because the Khula has not yet been granted. The Iddah begins from the day the court issues the Khula decree. From that day, the woman must observe an Iddah of one menstrual cycle.
