Understanding the Islamic Perspective on Hasli Ceremonies and Eating from Such Invitations
Question: If a neighbor invites us to a meal for a child’s “Hasli” ceremony, can we eat that food? We don’t know exactly what “Hasli” is, but we understand that when a child is born after many prayers, they make a vow to perform “Hasli” after a certain number of years and then hold a meal and invite people.
Answer:Firstly, regarding the invitation you mentioned, you used three different terms: “Hasli,” “Hasali,” and “Hasli.” As for the matter of eating at such an invitation, you should ask yourself whether there is any evidence in Islam for such an invitation. Did the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) encourage us to hold or attend such invitations?
If there is no such invitation in Islam, then it is not permissible to hold or attend such an invitation.
In reality, there is no such invitation in Islam. Therefore, if you receive such an invitation from a neighbor, not only should you refuse to attend, but you should also advise them not to hold such an invitation. It is possible that your advice will be effective, and at the very least, you will be free from any blame. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) instructed that if any of you sees an evil, he should change it with his hand; if he cannot do so, then with his tongue; and if he cannot do so, then with his heart, and that is the weakest level of faith (Sahih Muslim: 49).
