Patience from Disobedience: The Second Type of Sabr in Islam

Understanding Sabr upon Disobedience and its Rewards in Islam

PATIENCE UPON DISOBEDIENCE

The Second type of Patience

Patience from Disobedience.

Allaah ﷻ exemplifies this Sabr in Yusuf عليه السلام and shows us what true Taqwa is.

When Zuleikha approached him,

and said: “Come on, O you.”

[12:23]

But he categorically refused her call,

He said, “[I seek] the refuge of Allah . Indeed, he is my master, who has made good my residence.

[12:23]

as they used to call the chief and master a Rabb’, Yusuf عليه السلام said to her, your husband is my master who provided me with comfortable living and was kind to me, so I will never betray him’ by committing immoral sins with his wife,’

And as we know from the Hadith of Prophet ﷺ, anyone from his Ummah who resists the call of a woman of status and beauty will be under the shade of the Arsh of Allah ﷻ.

[Bukhari and Muslim]

Sabr from disobedience is difficult and is a test for the believers.

Abu Huraira رضي الله عنه reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When Allah created Paradise and Hellfire, He sent Jibreel عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ to Paradise saying: Behold it and what I have prepared therein for its people. Jibreel عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ came and looked at it and what Allah had prepared therein for its people. He returned to Allah and he said: *_By Your might, no one will hear of it but that he will enter it._*

Allah ordered that it be surrounded by adversity and he said: Return to it and behold what I have prepared therein for its people. Jibreel عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ returned and found that it was surrounded by hardship. He returned to Allah and he said: *_By Your might, I fear that no one will enter it._*

Allah said: Go to the Hellfire and behold it and what I have prepared therein for its people. Jibreel عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ found that it was in layers, one above another. He returned to Allah and he said: *_By Your might, no one who hears of it will enter it._*

Allah ordered that it be surrounded by desires and he said: Return to it. Jibreel عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ returned and he said: *_By Your might, I fear that no one will escape it.”_*

[Sunan al-Tirmidhi‌ 2560, Grade: Sahih ]

Jahannam is surrounded by desirable things!

And to Abstain from these things for the sake of Allah ﷻ is what is

And as Allaah ﷻ says

And as for him who fears to stand in front of his Rabb and forbids his lower desires, Jannah is his abode.

[79:40-41]

May Allaah Grant us ease.
