Answer: There is no harm in naming a child “Marwan.” Names do not affect a person’s character or health. A name is simply a means of identification and recognition. However, it is good to choose a name with a positive meaning, but names themselves do not have any inherent influence on a person’s character or health.

It seems there might be some misunderstanding regarding the historical figure Marwan ibn al-Hakam. Some scholars consider him a companion (Sahabi) while others consider him a follower (Tabi’i). There are misconceptions spread about him, particularly among Shia Muslims. We should not fall into such misunderstandings. Naming a child “Marwan” is permissible and will not have any negative impact on the child.
