Question: Is it sufficient to perform istikhara once, or is it necessary to do it for three days?
Answer: The first point is that it is not obligatory to perform istikhara for any matter; rather, it is a recommended (mustahabb) act. If you want to do it, it is fine, and if you don’t, it is not necessary. Therefore, performing istikhara is neither obligatory once, nor two or three times.
The second point is that performing istikhara once is sufficient, and if someone performs it more than once, there is no harm in that. However, it should not be considered obligatory to do istikhara one or three times.
