Question: Something has been bothering me, so I thought I’d ask you. I have been teaching at a preschool for three months. The school celebrates festivals and activities, and since it is a Hindu school, we are required to do decorations, make boards, and participate in group activities with other teachers. This is part of the job and mandatory at the school. However, during the celebrations, I always stand back and do not participate or appear in videos. My question is, is it permissible in Islam to participate in such activities?
Answer: Teaching at a school and providing education is a good thing, but a Muslim should not go to a school or place where they have to assist in Hindu functions or cooperate in activities related to non-Islamic functions, and also participate in these activities. Alhamdulillah, there are many educational institutions free from non-Islamic functions. You should join such an institution for teaching, which is better for you than a school where you have to engage in non-Islamic functions. Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, commands not to help in sin and transgression.
