Question: Can we keep some parts of the meat from the Aqeeqah (like liver, trotters, and kidneys) at home after distributing it among relatives?
Answer: The meat from the Aqeeqah is similar to that of Qurbani (sacrifice). You can eat it yourself and also share it with others, whether cooked or distributed as raw meat. However, storing it for a long time is not considered appropriate. Minor or separate parts of the animal, such as the stomach, trotters, and head, can be kept without any issue. It is even better to distribute these parts among people, especially the needy, as sharing is better than storing. Besides these parts, the rest of the meat should be mixed and consumed by yourself and shared with others. Liver and kidneys are parts that everyone likes, so it doesn’t seem appropriate to keep these preferred parts for oneself. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “None of you will have faith until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself” (Sahih Bukhari: 13).
In summary, the person performing the Aqeeqah should eat the meat themselves and also share it with others. They should prefer for their brothers what they prefer for themselves. If someone keeps these parts for themselves, there is no issue, but the main point is to eat and share.
