Trusting Allah’s Promise: Leaving for His Sake

Allah Replaces What You Leave for His Sake with Something Better

ALLĀH says:

"If ALLĀH knows any good in your hearts, HE will give you something better than what has been taken from you, and HE will forgive you, and ALLĀH is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." {Al-Anfāl || Verse 70}

Abu Qatadah (may ALLĀH be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Verily, you will never leave anything for the sake of ALLĀH Almighty but that ALLĀH will replace it with something better for you.” {Musnad Ah‌mad #23074}

Shaykh Abdur-Rahman As-Sa’di (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said: “This (verse 8:70) was revealed concerning the captives of the Battle of Badr, among whom was al-‘ Abbas (may ALLĀH be pleased with him), the paternal uncle of the Messenger of ALLĀH. When the ransom was demanded of him, he claimed that he had become Muslim before that, but they did not waive the ransom for him…

ALLĀH fulfilled HIS promise to al-‘Abbas and others, for he acquired a great deal of wealth after that, to the extent that on one occasion, when a great deal of wealth came to the Prophet (ﷺ), al-‘Abbas came to him and the Prophet (ﷺ) told him to take whatever he could carry in his garment, and he took so much that he was almost unable to carry it." {Tafsi‌r As-Sa'di}

Al-Abbas (may ALLĀH be pleased with him) commented, “After I became Muslim, ALLĀH gave me twenty servants in place of the twenty Uwqiyah I lost. And I hope for ALLĀH’S forgiveness.” {Tafsi‌r Ibn Kathīr}

Sometimes we can struggle leaving that which we know is displeasing to ALLĀH because we feel we’ll be at some sort of loss, but if we internalize the aforementioned statements, we’ll know that we will never ultimately be at loss for leaving something for ALLĀH’s sake because HE will certainly replace it with something better than whatever we left.
