Discover the Benefits and Best Practices of Hijama (Cupping Therapy)
Hijama, also known as cupping therapy, is a beneficial treatment for the human body. It involves removing impure blood from the body, providing relief and comfort from various ailments. Despite its numerous benefits, it is not widely available, and there are misconceptions about it. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “The best treatment you can use is cupping” (Sahih Bukhari: 5696).
Regarding the specific dates and days for Hijama, there are several narrations, though many are weak. One authentic narration suggests that cupping on the 17th, 19th, and 21st of the lunar month brings healing from all diseases (Sahih Abu Dawood: 3861).
As for the days, a narration considered Hasan (good) by scholars like Al-Albani suggests that cupping on an empty stomach is best, increasing intellect and memory. It recommends cupping on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, while avoiding Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Wednesdays (Sahih Ibn Majah: 2826).
In summary, while the 17th, 19th, and 21st of the lunar month and Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays are recommended, cupping can be done on any day or night, as scholars have clarified. The prohibition on certain days is considered a matter of dislike rather than strict prohibition.
