Hoor (Houris) and Sexual Relations
Multiple texts indicate that among the blessings of Paradise, Allah will grant men the ability to marry Houris, and the inhabitants of Paradise will engage in sexual relations with them.
(1) Allah’s statement is: وَزَوَّجْنَاهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ (Al-Tur: 20)
Translation: “And We have married them to Houris with large, beautiful eyes.”
(2) In another place, Allah says:
إِنَّ أَصْحَابَ الْجَنَّةِ الْيَوْمَ فِي شُغُلٍ فَاكِهُونَ (Yaseen: 55)
Translation: “Indeed, the companions of Paradise today are in joyful occupation.”
Here, the “occupation” of the inhabitants of Paradise refers to visiting the virgins.
(3) Allah says:
(Al-Zukhruf: 70)
Translation: “Enter Paradise, you and your wives, in joy.”
Similarly, numerous sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) clarify that the inhabitants of Paradise will engage in sexual relations with Houris.
(1) In a hadith from Sahih Muslim: وما في الجنةِ أعزبُ (Sahih Muslim: 2834)
Translation: “There will be no one in Paradise who is single.”
(2) Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that some Jews came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and asked: “O Abu al-Qasim, do you think that people will eat and drink in Paradise?” The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied:
“Yes, by the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, each of them will be given the strength of a hundred men in eating, drinking, and sexual relations.” (Sahih al-Targheeb: 3739)
(3) The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
إنَّ أهْلَ الجنةِ إذا جَامَعُوا نِساءَهُمْ عادُوا أبْكارًا (Sahih al-Jami: 3351)
Translation: “When the inhabitants of Paradise have relations with their wives, they will return to being virgins.”
(4) Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that it was said to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him): “Will we have sexual relations in Paradise?” He said:
“Yes, by the One in Whose hand is my soul, with great passion, and when he stands up from her, she will return pure and a virgin.” (Silsilat al-Sahihah: 3351)
May Allah grant us Paradise. Ameen.
