The curriculum of Tablighi Jamaat is Fazail-e-Amaal, which was written by Maulana Zakariya upon the orders of Maulana Ilyas. Fazail-e-Amaal has 9 parts and 2 volumes: Hikayatus Sahabah, Fazail-e-Zikr, Fazail-e-Namaz, Fazail-e-Tableegh, Fazail-e-Quran, Fazail-e-Durood, Fazail-e-Ramadan, Fazail-e-Sadaqat and Fazail-e-Hajj. Earlier, the name of this book was Tablighi Nisab, and now it is Fazail-e-Amaal. Saudi Arabia has banned this book in their country due to false and fabricated content.
The book “Fazail-e-Amaal” and this book of the Tablighi Jamaat hold immense importance among Tablighi brothers. Tablighi brothers have even gone so far as to say about this book that it is the most read book after the Holy Quran. This book was written at the behest of Maulana Ilyas Sahib, who is the founder of the Tablighi Jamaat. It was written by Zakariya Sahib, who is also the son-in-law and nephew of Ilyas Sahib. It is said that this book was written due to the persistent insistence of Ilyas Sahib, and it was written at a time when Zakariya Sahib was unwell. He himself wrote this.
It is recorded in the introductory words that, “I fell ill for a few days, and the doctors told me not to do any work for a few days. During this time, while I was on bed rest, I thought of writing a book. If people liked it, then good, otherwise my time would pass”. But in reality, this book is based on stories and tales. It contains many such stories that have nothing to do with reality. They are fabricated stories. You will find such stories that if a person of faith reads them, they might fear for their faith to waver.
Let’s see, the Deobandi brothers go to great lengths in praising this book. These people have even said that “Fazail-e-Amaal” is the most read book after the Quran. Let’s read some parts of it and think about where the strength of faith will come from it. Throughout the book, such things are written everywhere. Zakariya Sahib writes: “I am uttering whatever comes to my mind in my passion, may someone understand even a little of it”. (Muqaddama Fazail-e-Amaal, Page No. 4, Naaz Publishing, Delhi 6).

My temperament has been amorous since childhood; who knows since when I have been smitten by someone. The glory of love-making was evident in my infancy… if I played a game in childhood, it was to exchange glances”. (Fazail-e-Amaal, Fazail-e-Hajj, Page No. 41). Read further – – “The calamity-stricken eye of the world, the decree of fate, the grave, keeps showing the youth of those people as you keep watching”. (Fazail-e-Amaal, Fazail-e-Hajj, Page No. 42).
You have read, friends, about this book which is said to be the most read book after the Quran. You yourself can assess… what kind of education are these people giving? After reading this book, love for religion will not increase… so then, what will be loved? You can assess that yourself.
“Hazrat (the author) has written many incidents about these devout individuals in such a way that it appears as if they were laughing, joking, and enjoying themselves at the time of death and even after it”. ( Fazail-e-Sadaqat, Page 476 ).
“Ibrahim bin Shoban says that after completing Hajj, I went to Madinah Munawwarah. When I reached near the blessed grave to offer Salam, I heard a voice from inside the Sacred Chamber saying: وَعَلَيْكُمُ السَّلَامُ”. ( Fazail-e-Durood, Page 19 ).
“Sayyid Ahmad Rafi, one of the well-known elders among the senior Sufis, has a famous story that in 555 Hijri when he visited the blessed grave and stood in front of it, he recited these two couplets: ‘In the state of distance, I used to send my soul in the sacred service; it would act as my deputy and kiss the blessed threshold. Now it is the turn of physical presence; please extend your blessed hand so that my lips may kiss it'”. Upon this, a blessed hand emerged from the grave, and he kissed it. ( Fazail-e-Hajj, Pages 130–131 ).
“An elder says: I was giving ghusl (ritual washing) to a disciple when he grabbed my thumb. I said, ‘Let go of my thumb. I know you haven’t really died; this is merely moving from one house to another'”. Then he let go of my thumb. ( Fazail-e-Sadaqat, Page 476 ).
“Sheikh Mazhar Saeedi was a pious man who wept for 60 years in the love and longing for Allah”. ( Fazail-e-Namaz, Page 61 ). “Indeed, in this booklet, after narrating a few Sufi stories, I also quote a few sayings of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ)”. ( Fazail-e-Namaz, Page 61 ).
Traveling the Entire World in One Day:
“An elder narrates a lengthy story of his meeting with Hazrat Khidr, in which Hazrat Khidr says: ‘I perform Fajr prayer in Makkah Mukarramah and sit near Rukn al-Shami in the Hatim until sunrise. I perform Dhuhr in Madinah, Asr in Bayt al-Maqdis, Maghrib in Sinai, and Isha in Alexandria'”. ( Fazail-e-Hajj, Page 218 ).
“A story of a Sayyid Sahib is written that he performed all prayers for twelve days with one ablution and did not lie down for fifteen years straight. Such incidents are found in abundance among the people of spiritual struggle”. ( Fazail-e-Namaz, Page 65 ).
“I (the compiler) personally saw my guide, Hazrat Maulana Khalil Ahmad Sahib (may Allah illuminate his grave), during the entire month of Ramadan; he would not eat more than about one and a half chapatis for both Iftar and Suhoor. Even if a servant insisted, he would reply that he did not feel hungry and only sat out of regard for the companions. And even more astonishing, it is said about Maulana Shah Abdul Rahim Sahib Raipuri (may Allah have mercy on him) that several days would pass where his entire Suhoor and Iftar consisted of just a few sips of tea without milk. Once his sincere servant, Maulana Shah Abdul Qadir Sahib (may Allah illuminate his grave), requested him with permission to eat something out of concern for his weakness. Hazrat replied, ‘Alhamdulillah, I am enjoying the delights of Jannah'”. ( Fazail-e-Ramadan, Page 31 ).
These are just a few examples of the fabricated tales and superstitions of the Sufis. Such bizarre and fanciful stories, which are entirely contrary to Islamic teachings and the Sunnah of the Prophet (ﷺ), have been included to form the Tablighi Nisab , specifically targeting the ignorant masses.
“One of the Abdaal asked Hazrat Khidr if he had ever seen a Wali (saint) more spiritually elevated than himself. He replied, ‘Yes, I once visited the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah Tayyibah. Imam Abdul Razzaq, the Muhaddith, was narrating Hadith, and a group was listening to him. In a corner of the mosque, a young man was sitting with his head resting on his knees. I said to him, “Can’t you see that people are listening to the Hadith of the Prophet (ﷺ)? Why don’t you join them?”. He neither raised his head nor paid attention to me and said, “These people are listening to Hadith from the servant of Razzaq, while I listen to them directly from Razzaq, not from His servant””. Hazrat Khidr said: “Your words are true. Tell me, do you know who I am?”. He raised his head and replied, “If my intuition is correct, then you are Hazrat Khidr”. Hazrat Khidr then said: “Through him, I came to know that there are such saints of Allah that due to their elevated status, I do not recognize them. Allah is pleased with them, and may we also benefit from them”. ( Fazail-e-Hajj, Page 128 ).
This entire narrative and such stories are nothing but fabrications and deceit. They are against logic and a mockery of the intellect. May Allah protect us from such false beliefs… Ameen.
Fazail-e-Amaal is that book of jokes which some people, leaving the Quran and Sunnah, read out to people for Tabligh (preaching), saying that it corrects people’s beliefs or further spoils them.
Joke Number-1
Regarding a shroud thief, it is narrated that when he dug a grave, he saw a person sitting on a throne inside, with the Holy Quran in front of him, engrossed in recitation. A canal was flowing underneath. He fell unconscious. People took him out of the grave. He regained consciousness after three days and narrated the story. Some people desired to see his grave. They asked him to show the grave. He even intended to take them and show the grave. That night, he saw the old man in the grave in his dream, saying, “If you tell about my grave, you will get into such troubles that you will remember”. (Fazail-e-Sadaqat, Part Two, Page 659). The falsehood of this story is evident from the story itself. On one hand, people took him out of the grave, and on the other hand, people asked him for the address of the grave.
The famous elder Ibn Jala says: My father passed away. When he was placed on the washing board for bathing, he started laughing. The bathers left and ran away. (Fazail-e-Sadaqat, Part Two, Page 660).
Joke Number-2
An elder says that I gave Ghusl (ritual bath) to a disciple. He grabbed my thumb. I said, “Leave my thumb. I know that you are not mine, but this is a transfer from one house to another”. He left my thumb. (Fazail-e-Sadaqat, Part Two, Page 660).
Joke Number-3
Consider this: Is this the way of narration in the religion of Islam, that an elder says, but there is no trace of that elder’s name or identity? After all, there should be some principle for stating a narration. Sheikh Abu Yaqoob Sanusi says: A disciple came to me and said, “I will die tomorrow at the time of Zohr”. So he actually died. I gave him Ghusl and buried him. When I placed him in the grave, he opened his eyes. I said, “Is there life even after death?”. He said, “I am alive, and every lover of Allah remains alive”. (Fazail-e-Sadaqat, Part Two, Page 660).
Joke Number -4
Abu Saeed Khizar says: In Makkah Mukarrama, outside Bab Bani Shia, I saw the dead body of a handsome man lying. When I looked at him closely, he started laughing. (Fazail-e-Sadaqat, Part Two, Page 671).
Joke Number-5
Does believing in these events not necessarily imply a denial of the Holy Quran?. Sufyan Thawri meets a young man and asks him the reason for reciting Durood (blessings upon the Prophet) at every step. He tells him that he and his mother were going for Hajj. His mother stayed there, meaning she died, and her face turned black and her stomach swelled up, from which I realized that a serious sin had been committed. Then I raised my hands towards Allah for supplication. I saw a cloud coming from all the pilgrims. A man appeared from it. He passed his blessed hand over my mother’s face, due to which it became completely radiant, and he passed his hand over her stomach, and the swelling completely subsided. I asked him, “Who are you, who removed the trouble of me and my mother?”. He replied, “I am your Prophet (peace be upon him)”. (Fazail-e-Durood, Fasl Panjam, Waqia 46, Page 104).
With these events, Deobandis and Barelvis become one. They have crossed the limit of disrespect by saying that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) passed his hand over the face and stomach of a dead woman – Astaghfirullah (I seek forgiveness from Allah). This is the religion of the Deobandis, which is presented in the name of Islam. We pray to Allah to guide them and grant them the ability to understand the Quran and authentic Hadith, Ameen Ya Rabbul Aalameen (Amen, O Lord of the Worlds). For the sake of Allah, start preaching from the Book of Allah so that change comes among Muslims and all become united. For preaching, Allah has sent the Quran. Spread the Quran of Allah among Muslims so that all Muslims become aware through this Book of Knowledge.
The writing of the book Fazail-e-Amaal was started by Maulana Zakariya at a time when he was not capable of doing mental work. Fazail-e-Amaal (Hikayat-e-Sahabah, Tamheed), Qutub Khana Madinah, Page Number 7, Line Number 10. In Safar 1357, due to an illness, I was prevented from mental work for a few days, so I thought of spending these vacant days in this blessed occupation, that even if these pages are not liked, my vacant times will at least be spent in the best and most blessed occupation.
The Incident of Completing One Quran in a Day and Descriptions of the Dead
The story of a pious woman is written daily, who was called Bahita. She used to worship very much. When she was about to die, she raised her head towards the sky and said, “O You who are my treasure and reserve, and upon whom is my trust in life and death, do not disgrace me at the time of death, and do not leave me in loneliness in the grave”. When she passed away, her son started this practice that every Friday he would go to his mother’s grave, recite the Holy Quran and send the reward to her, and pray for her and all the people in the graveyard. One day, the son saw his mother in a dream and asked, “Mother, how are you?”. The mother replied, “The severity of death is a very severe thing. By the mercy of Allah, I am in great mercy in the grave. Rehan (fragrant flowers) is spread beneath me, and I have a pillow of silk. This treatment will remain with me until the Day of Judgment”. The son asked, “Is there any service I can do for you?”. She said, “You come to me every Friday and recite the Quran; do not stop it. When you come, all the people in the graveyard become happy and come to give me the good news that your son has come. I am also very happy at your arrival, and all of them are also very happy”. The boy says, “I used to go every Friday with great care in this manner. One day, I saw a very large gathering of men and women coming towards me in a dream. I asked, ‘Who are you people?'”. They said, ‘We are the people of such and such graveyard. We have come to thank you. We become very happy when you come to us every Friday and pray for our forgiveness. Continue this practice'”. After this, I started taking even more care of this.
Another Scholar’s Dream:
A person saw in a dream that all the graves in a graveyard suddenly split open, and the dead came out of them and were quickly picking up something from the ground. But one person, an old man, was sitting aside and not picking up anything. I went to him, greeted him, and asked him what the people were picking up. That person said, “Those who send some Sadaqah (charity), Dua (supplication), Durood (blessings), etc., to the people of this graveyard, they are collecting the blessings of that”. I said, “Why are you not picking up?” He said, “I am independent of this. I have a son who sells Jalebi (a type of sweet that sticks to the mouth) in such and such market. He recites one Holy Quran daily and sends its reward to me”. I woke up in the morning and went to that market. I saw a young man selling Jalebi, and his lips were moving. I asked him what he was reading. He said, “I finish one Holy Quran daily and present its reward to my father”. After some time of this incident, I once again saw the people of this graveyard picking up in the same way, and this time I also saw that person picking up with whom I had spoken the first time. Then my eyes opened. I was surprised at this. I woke up in the morning and went to the same market again. Upon investigation, it was learned that the boy had passed away.
Hazrat Saleh Marri’s Dream:
Hazrat Saleh Marri states that once, on the last night of Friday, I was going to the Jama Masjid (congregational mosque) so that I could pray the Fajr (morning) prayer there. There was a delay in the morning. There was a graveyard on the way. I sat near a grave there. As soon as I sat down, I fell asleep. I saw in a dream that all the graves had split open, and the dead were coming out and talking happily. Among them, a young man also came out of a grave, whose clothes were dirty, and he looked sad and sat aside. After a while, many angels descended from the sky, carrying trays in their hands covered with cloths of light. They were giving a portion to each person, and whoever took the tray, those were the gifts that the living people send to their respective dead. I have no one else to send except a mother, but she is entangled in the world. She has remarried and remains busy in her dreams. She never remembers me. I asked the boy about this and narrated this dream to him. The woman said, “Indeed, that was my son, the piece of my liver. My lap was his bed”. After this, this woman gave me one thousand dirhams to give as Sadaqah for my son and the coolness of my eyes, and I will always remember him with prayers and Sadaqah in the future; I will never forget him.
(Book Fazail-e-Amaal, Volume No. 1, Page No. 96-97-98).
New and innovative ways of worship in Fazail-e-Amaal that are completely against the Sunnah:
Operation Fazail-e-Amaal
“Recitation of ‘La ilaha illallah’ 200 times in one breath”
Our Hazrat Shah Waliullah Sahib (may Allah have mercy on him) has narrated in “Qawl-e-Jameel” from his father that at the beginning of my spiritual journey, I used to say ‘La ilaha illallah’ 200 times. {Fazail-e-Amaal, Part One, Fazail-e-Zikr, Page No-484, Printing Darul Isha’at Mustafai, Gali Vakil Kuchcha Pandit Lal Kuan, Delhi-6}.
Note:- Is such an act possible for any human being? If anyone has doubt, they should try it. Isn’t this a lie?.
Sufism is divided into several orders, which are called Tariqa. Four Tariqas are famous: Qadiri, Chishti, Naqshbandi, Suhrawardi. Qari Muhammad Tayyab Deobandi states: The identity of the Ulama of Deoband is that they are: In religion: Muslim, In sect: Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama’ah, In school of law: Hanafi, In theology: Maturidi and Ash’ari, In spiritual inclination: Sufi, In spiritual practice: Chishti, In principles: Qasimi, In affiliation: Deobandi. Deobandis are Muqallid (followers) – Of Abul Hasan Ash’ari and Abu Mansur Maturidi in beliefs, and of Imam Abu Hanifa in matters of jurisprudence. (Fatwa Rahimiyah, Volume 1, Page 58). Sufis: Hold the belief of Wahdat-ul-Wujud. Meaning, whatever exists in the world is the essence of Allah, and Allah is present in everything. (Na’uzubillah – We seek refuge in Allah).
One instance of disrespect towards the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) among the hundreds of disrespectful statements in Fazail-e-Amaal: –
First, see what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) states in an authentic Hadith about his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them): –
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Do not revile my Companions, do not revile my Companions. By the One in whose hand is my soul, if one of you were to spend1 gold equivalent to (the mountain of) Uhud, he would not attain the reward equal to even one Mudd (544 grams) given by one of them, nor even half of it”. (Mount Uhud is 3533 feet high and 7.5 kilometers long.) Muslim Sharif: 6487.
This Hadith shows the virtue of the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) and their worship, and the virtue of any worship performed by them. We and our worship cannot even come close to any worship performed by them, because they are that great group who saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), were the first to believe in the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and sacrificed their lives, wealth, and everything else in the path of Allah.
But see what Fazail-e-Amaal, the book which our Tablighi brothers claim is read and taught for 2.5-2.5 hours to refresh faith and create love for the religion, says in opposition to this Hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him):
Hazrat Abu Muslim Khawlani had hung a whip in the mosque of his house, and addressing his Nafs (inner self), he would say, “Stand up, I will thoroughly grind you (in worship) until you get tired, but I will not get tired”. And when he felt some laziness, he would strike his shins with that whip and say, “These shins are more deserving of beating than my horse”. He also used to say that the noble Companions think that they will take away all the gates of Paradise, no, we will strongly compete with them (in those ranks) so that they also know that they have left men behind them. [Fazail-e-Amaal, Fazail-e-Sadaqat, Part Two].
May Allah (the Mighty and Majestic) grant all Muslims the ability to leave fanaticism and speak, listen to, and act upon the truth, and unite them upon the Quran and Hadith… Ameen Summa Ameen! (Amen, then Amen!).
Faiz and Dastgiri from Graves and Shrines
It is stated in the established book of Deobandis, “Arwahe Salasa”: “Maulvi Moinuddin Sahib was the eldest son of Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Yaqoob Sahib. He used to narrate a miracle of Hazrat Maulana (which occurred after his death) that once there was a great prevalence of fever with chills in our Nanauta… so whoever would take soil from the grave of Maulana (Muhammad Yaqoob) and tie it (on themselves), they would get relief… so much soil was taken that it would finish as soon as it was put in… it had been put in many times… becoming worried, once he went to the grave of Maulana and said… these sons are very quick-tempered… your miracle has happened, and our trouble has happened… remember that if anyone gets well from now on, we will not put soil; let them lie like this… people will walk over you with their shoes on like this… it was just from that day that no one got relief again… just as the fame of relief had spread, similarly this fame spread that now there is no relief… then people stopped taking soil…” [Arwahe Salasa – Page 275].
You have seen how, in the eyes of Deobandis, various kinds of spiritual grace and blessings are obtained from the graves of elders… from this, it is also known that here too, saints and spiritual leaders continue to benefit people from their graves even after death, and they also have authority over this because the bestowal of benefit can also be stopped upon complaint. Now, please observe another similar incident regarding how help and assistance are also received from graves and shrines.
Ashraf Ali Thanvi states:
“When the effect of the noble shrine was mentioned, you (meaning Haji Imdadullah) said that my Hazrat had a weaver disciple. After the death of Hazrat, he presented his case at the noble shrine, saying, ‘Hazrat, I am very troubled and in need of bread; please grant some assistance.’ The order was given that you will receive two Annas or half an Anna daily from our shrine… Once, I went to visit the shrine, and that person was also present. He narrated the entire situation and said that a fixed allowance is given to me here from this grave every day… (Footnote) Qawla Wazifa Muqarrar… these sayings are among the miracles…” [Imdad al Mushtaq – Page 123].
From the narration and statement of Thanvi Sahib, it is known that in the view of these gentlemen, if one requests assistance from the occupant of the shrine by presenting their difficulty and trouble, then they do provide assistance and help… Generally, in the light of the Book and the Sunnah, there is no doubt that such a thing is Shirk, but since the narrator is their elder, from whose shrine assistance was received, he is also the Hazrat of the elders. Therefore, here this matter is a miracle. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’oon (Surely we belong to Allah, and to Him shall we return).
"Do they associate with Him those who create nothing and who are themselves created? --------- Indeed, those whom you invoke besides Allah are [but] servants like yourselves". [Al-A'raf: 191, 194].
