Performing Funeral Prayer: Congregation vs Separate Prayers
Question: Is there any evidence that men and women who come to offer condolences can perform the funeral prayer individually or in congregation at the place where the deceased is?
Answer: There is no evidence that people who come to offer condolences should perform the funeral prayer individually or in separate congregations at the place where the deceased is. The funeral prayer should be performed only once, and everyone should participate in that single prayer together. Even women who wish to perform the prayer should join the congregation with the men.
However, if it is not convenient for women to join the main funeral prayer, they can gather and perform the funeral prayer together at the place of the deceased, as Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) did when she had the funeral of Saad (may Allah be pleased with him) brought to her and performed the prayer.
