Islamic Ruling on Tying Hair in a Bun: What’s Permissible and What’s Not?

Question: Are women allowed to tie their hair in any style? Specifically, is it prohibited to tie hair into a bun lower on the head, rather than on top?

Answer: Tying hair into a bun resembling a camel’s hump on top of the head is prohibited. However, tying hair into other styles, such as a lower bun, to avoid discomfort is permissible.
