Can Aqeeqah Be Performed in Another Location if the Child Is Not Present?
Question: A relative of mine has had a son. He lives abroad and intends to perform the Aqeeqah (sacrifice) at the grandparents’ house in Pakistan. Is it permissible to perform the Aqeeqah in a place where the child is not present?
Answer: The preferred practice is to perform the Aqeeqah where the child is present, as the Aqeeqah is done on behalf of the child. However, if the Aqeeqah is performed in a place where the child is not present, it is still valid. The essence of Aqeeqah is to sacrifice a small animal in the name of the newborn to remove any harm from the child.
