Question: I was married and now I am divorced. Please suggest a prayer or supplication for finding a righteous spouse that I can recite regularly.
Answer: May Allah keep you happy and resolve your issues. Establishing a marital relationship with a righteous person is an action, and merely praying for it will not suffice. It is not as if one can simply pray and immediately find a desired righteous spouse. If everything could be achieved by just praying, then no one would need to do any work in this world. When you need food at home, do you just pray and the food gets prepared? Do you just pray and the food goes into your stomach? Do you just pray and the house gets cleaned?
Your answer would be no. Similarly, for finding a righteous spouse, we need to take action. This action involves seeking a match through your guardian and family, making efforts to find a righteous spouse, and adopting the necessary means. Alongside, you should also pray to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, during the best times. Allah certainly fulfills the wishes of His servants. There is no doubt that prayer is a powerful weapon for a believer, but we also need to adopt the means.
Keep in mind two additional points: there is no specific prayer prescribed in Shariah for finding a spouse, so you can present your plea to Allah in your own language. Secondly, do not consider worldly standards in marriage; rather, choose a spouse based on their religious commitment, regardless of their caste or whether they are poor or a laborer, as long as they are pious.
