Navigating Dreams of Deceased Family Members: What You Need to Know
Question: My father passed away six months ago, and I often have strange dreams about him, sometimes even bad ones, which make me anxious. My father did both good and bad deeds in his life. My brother passed away a year ago, but I don’t have such dreams about him. What should I do about this?
Answer: It is possible to see the deceased in dreams, but there is no need to be anxious about it. Regardless of whether the deceased did good or bad deeds in their life, their actions have ended with their death, and they are responsible for themselves. Their children or anyone else in the world are not responsible for them, so there is no need to worry about this matter. Allah gives everyone life and the opportunity to act; the deceased’s opportunity has ended, and those who are alive should focus on their own actions to ensure an easier reckoning on the Day of Judgment.
As for what we can do for the deceased, we should perform the acts permitted by Shariah, such as praying for their forgiveness, asking for the elevation of their ranks, seeking pardon for their sins, and giving charity on their behalf. These acts can be performed as a means of conveying rewards to the deceased. There is no need to be restless about anything else. We should be more concerned about ourselves, as our own situation in the Hereafter and our reckoning will not be trivial.
