How to Properly Dispose of Calendars with Quranic Verses and Hadiths

Guidelines for Disposing of Calendars Containing Quranic Texts and Hadiths

Question: Calendars and other items often have Quranic verses and Hadiths written on them. After using these calendars, what should we do with the pages containing these verses? Some people say they should be burned. Is this correct?

Answer: It is true that calendars published by schools and centers often contain Quranic verses, Hadiths, and prayers. When the calendar is no longer in use, you can burn it; there is no harm in doing so.

Regarding the compilation of the Quran, it is narrated by Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) in Sahih Bukhari:

“Until they had copied the manuscripts into the codices, Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) returned the original manuscripts to Hafsa, and he sent to every region one of the copies they had copied, and ordered that all other Quranic materials, whether in fragmentary manuscripts or whole copies, be burnt” (Sahih Bukhari: 4987).

From this Hadith, we learn that any book, notebook, newspaper, or calendar containing Quranic verses and Hadiths can be burned.
