Combining Prayers: A Guide to Jam’ Taqdeem and Jam’ Ta’kheer

Understanding Jam’ Taqdeem and Jam’ Ta’kheer in Islamic Prayers

Question: How do you perform “Jam’ Taqdeem” and “Jam’ Ta’kheer” in prayers?

Answer: When two prayers are combined due to an excuse, there are two ways to do it:

1. Jam’ Taqdeem (Advance Combination): This is when the second prayer is combined with the first prayer at the time of the first prayer. For example, praying both Dhuhr and Asr at the time of Dhuhr is Jam’ Taqdeem.

2. Jam’ Ta’kheer (Delayed Combination):** This is when the first prayer is delayed and combined with the second prayer at the time of the second prayer. For example, praying both Dhuhr and Asr at the time of Asr is Jam’ Ta’kheer.

It is important to note that in a state of residence (not traveling), combining two prayers without a valid excuse is not allowed. However, it is permissible to combine two prayers while traveling.
