Understanding Marriage and Conversion: The Status of a Christian Wife After Her Husband Converts to Islam
Question: If a husband and wife are Christians, but the husband converts to Islam and marries a Muslim woman, will the first wife, who is still a Christian, remain his wife, or will the marriage be annulled?
Answer: If both the husband and wife are Christians and the husband converts to Islam, the Christian wife will remain in the marriage because marriage to a Christian woman is permissible. Even if the new Muslim marries a second time, the Christian wife remains his wife. If the new Muslim wishes to separate from the first wife, he can do so, but he can also choose to keep her.
