Hajj Travel for Women: Understanding the Mahram Requirement in Shariah

The requirement for a Mahram (a male guardian) when a woman travels is a matter of Shariah and cannot be altered by state laws or personal preferences. According to Islamic law, a woman must have a Mahram accompany her on any journey, including Hajj or Umrah, regardless of her age. Therefore, even if a woman is over 40 years old and state regulations allow her to travel without a Mahram, it remains impermissible in Shariah for her to undertake the journey without one. Traveling without a Mahram for Hajj would be considered sinful.
