Can I Sew or Interlock the Edges of My Ihram? Islamic Ruling

Sewing or Interlocking Ihram Edges: Is it Permissible in Islam

Question: Can we interlock or sew the edges of the Ihram to prevent threads from coming out?

Answer: It is not correct to interlock or sew the edges of the Ihram to prevent threads from coming out. The Ihram cloth is inherently secure and does not require its edges to be sewn or interlocked. This cloth is not for daily use; it is worn only during Umrah and is removed afterward, typically staying on the body for just three to four hours. I have been in Saudi Arabia for fifteen years and, by Allah’s grace, have had the opportunity to perform Umrah regularly, and I have never had an issue with threads coming out of the Ihram cloth. If a thread does come out, it can simply be pulled off without needing to sew the edges. However, for patients or children, if there is a necessity, such as adding a drawstring, it is permissible. This is allowed out of necessity.
