Accepting Sweets for a Naming Ceremony: What is the Ruling?
Question: When a first child is born, people distribute sweets and label the box with “Naming Ceremony” and distribute laddus from house to house. Is it correct to do this and can we eat the laddus?
Answer: Whether it is the first child, second, third, or fourth, if someone distributes sweets or any other items out of happiness, there is no harm in it, and you can accept their gift. However, if someone follows a custom or tradition and organizes a ceremony or sends something under that tradition, we should avoid it because by accepting it, we become part of that custom. Therefore, you should determine the nature of the laddus sent to your home and act according to the above ruling.
